How a lookup works

When you search an address, it is geocoded to a coordinate (via Google Maps), then matched against official Queensland Government boundary and road datasets stored in our database. Your local council, state electorate, and federal division are each determined by which official boundary polygon contains that coordinate. Road authority is determined separately — see below.

Data sources and licensing

LGA boundaries, state electorate boundaries, council details, and road network data come from Queensland Government open data (Creative Commons Attribution 3.0/4.0 AU). Federal electoral division boundaries and federal MP details come from the Australian Electoral Commission and Australian Parliament House. State MP details come from the Queensland Parliament. Update frequency

Boundary and member data is refreshed after electoral redistributions, by-elections, and ministerial reshuffles. Every six months we review each dataset for a newer official release. Road network data is refreshed as updated Queensland Government exports become available. This is a point-in-time snapshot, not a live government feed — always confirm anything time-sensitive directly with the relevant authority.

Road authority: confirmed vs inferred

The Road authority card shows a confidence badge:

• Confirmed — the road was matched against official road mapping (geometry), so the location match is precise.
• Inferred — no mapped road was found close to the address, so the match is instead made by road name and suburb against a council-attributed road list. This is accurate in the large majority of cases, but carries a small chance of error in the minority of Queensland suburbs whose boundary spans more than one council area.

Known accuracy limitations

A small number of addresses near electoral division boundaries — particularly in coastal and remote areas — may not return a federal MP result, reflecting gaps in the published AEC boundary data rather than an error in your address. Some remote or park/forest roads fall outside every council boundary polygon and will show as outside coverage. Private roads and roads managed by body corporates are not covered.

Reporting an error

Every result page has a discreet "Report incorrect information" link that opens a pre-filled email to our corrections inbox with the address and result details already included. We review every report and, where confirmed, correct the underlying data.
